Sometime between midnight and 6 AM on January 24th, 18-year old Angelena Hamilton gave birth. Just hours later, while Hamilton was in class at Clovis Community College, a resident of Hamilton’s home noticed blood on their driveway and blood in their outside trashcan. Her family, whom she lives with, called police to report the blood and reportedly had no idea she was pregnant, let alone that she had given birth hours before.

Police responded to the home near Minnewawa and Alluvial avenues to investigate and found the body of a newborn baby girl in the trash bin.

Police contacted Hamilton who confessed she was the mother of the now deceased newborn. Investigators believe the baby was alive when she was born.

Hamilton was provided medical attention then booked into Fresno County Jail for a misdemeanor charge of involuntary manslaughter and a felony charge for endangering, causing, and or permitting physical and mental injury to a child. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the baby’s cause of death.
