ALPINE // A San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured on the job by an uncooperative passerby during an investigation into a burglary alarm.

On the afternoon of January 10th, at around 4 PM, deputies were responding to a report of a burglary alarm at the Alpine School District building on Administration Way. As they secured the perimeter, they noticed and spoke with a suspicious individual who became uncooperative and combative.

A brief struggle ensued, during which one of the deputies sustained minor injuries. Although the suspect — identified as 60-year-old Kelly Carpenter — was successfully arrested, it was determined that he was not connected to the burglary alarm.

The building was soon found to be secure, with deputies concluding that the alarm had been falsely triggered.
