Keys from Stolen Car Found, Suspected Thief in Custody

PLEASANTON – Police found a key from a stolen car shortly before they arrested a man in the predawn hours of Tuesday, near Peters Avenue and St. John Street, where stolen property from several vehicles was also recovered.

Officers responded to a call that a man was stealing property from a vehicle on the 500 block of St. John Street at 2:32 a.m. on April 4, and located a man who matched the description provided by a local resident.

The suspect, Steven M. Fox (27) was positively identified in a police lineup by a witness who saw the suspect walking out of a neighbor’s backyard from a residence on Peters Avenue.

Police discovered numerous vehicle burglaries had occurred nearby and found a key from a vehicle that was reported stolen in Fremont—close to where officers initially saw the suspect. The stolen car was located afterwards in downtown Pleasanton.

Property that was determined to have been stolen from numerous vehicles in the area was found in the suspect’s possession.

Fox was arrested shortly after 4 AM, charged with vehicle theft, receiving stolen property, and petty theft. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail, where he remains in custody in lieu of $70,000 bond. The suspect is scheduled to appear at a court hearing on April 6.
