Known Salinas Gang Member Avoids Capture

SALINAS — Police are on the lookout for a known gang member who managed to slip through their perimeter lockdown on Amador Circle in a North Salinas neighborhood on Sunday morning.

Police had received a 9-1-1 call from residents who claimed their roommate — later identified as 37-year-old Rodney Sablan of Salinas, a known gang member — was making death threats and that they feared for their lives.

Sablan is also alleged to have held down one of his roommates, a 66-year-old man, to prevent him from calling police. There had been an estimated 15 minutes between the initial call and police arrival, but it was suspected that Sablan was still in the area.

After about an hour, SWAT moved to make a tactical entry into the home only to find Sablan was not inside. Police believe he escaped at some point before officers arrived.

He is also alleged to have skipped parole and not reported to his parole officer as required. A county-wide B.O.L.O. has been issued for his arrest. Police are asking that anyone with information that may lead to his arrest contact them at 831-758-7250.
