Two Arrested for Running from Deputies with Loaded Handgun

BAKERSFIELD — Two men Deputies arrested two subjects and recovered a loaded firearm following a foot pursuit.

Orlando Vela, 29, and 19-year-old Joshua Soto both of Bakersfield were booked into the Central Receiving Facility on the following charges. Vela was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, altered firearm serial number and delaying/resisting a peace officer.

Soto was arrested for delaying/resisting a peace officer. According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the chain of events that led to the pairs arrest began when deputies responded to the 500 block of East Belle Terrace in Bakersfield, at about 12:30 p.m. on June 29, for a report of a subject with a handgun in his waistband.

“When deputies arrived, they found two male subjects matching the description provided by a witness,” Sheriff’s spokesperson Ray Pruitt said. “When they attempted to make contact, the suspects fled on foot.”

During the chase, deputies said they observed Vela ditching a handgun, which was later located and found to be fully loaded.
