Crashing Into River Nets Driver Arrest For DUI

An adolescent driver now faces DUI charges after his car rolled into the Sacramento River the night of April 28th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers told The Davis Enterprise that it is believed Manuel Segura, 18, was unduly under the influence of alcohol while he drove along River Road near West Sacramento. River Road is a narrow two lane thoroughfare atop steep levees. Segura lost control of his vehicle, which plunged and rolled over into the river below.

Before their vehicle sank completely, Segura and his passenger succeeded in extricating themselves from it and swam to shore, according to CHP Officer Joelle McChesney. Both swimmers were transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Upon arrival at the hospital, Segura was arrested before staff were allowed to treat him.
