Street Fight leads to Man Being Killed

Victim was a Member of a Gang

SALINAS—The Salinas Police are on the lookout for two men that killed a King City man in Salinas on Saturday morning, December 7th.

Late that Friday night, shortly after midnight, the Salinas Police where dispatched to the area of the 700 block of Elkington Avenue in North Salinas on a report of shots heard in that area.   When they arrived they found 23-year-old King City resident Netzahual Ruiz lying in the street. Ruiz was suffering from multiple gunshots and was unresponsive.  He was transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.

Witnesses to the shooting told investigators that Ruiz had crossed paths with another man who was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, and dark colored tennis shoes.  The two exchanged words. Then the confrontation moved from words being exchanged, to a fistfight.  At some point during the fight, the suspect pulled a gun and fired several shots at Ruiz.

At the same time a gold color 2004 4-door Honda Accord drove up. The driver exited the vehicle and began also shooting at Ruiz,  who then collapsed to the ground.

The victim was a reportedly a gangster out of King City. “Ruiz is a member of the King City Dukes Sureno gang.” Salinas Police Sergeant Jeff Gibson said in a press release, “He does have a extensive criminal history with us.”

The Salinas Police Department is still investigating this incident and is asking anyone who witnesses or may have recognized the Honda Accord to call the Salinas Police Department at –1-831-775-4222.
