Police seek tips in early morning shooting

CITRUS HEIGHTS — One man is dead and a woman injured following a shooting in Citrus Heights early Wednesday morning.

The Citrus Heights Police Department received a call just before 4 a.m. Wednesday from a woman who heard gunshots fired inside a residence on the 5900 block of Merlindale Drive.

Police arrived to find a 40-year-old man deceased in the bedroom with gunshot wounds to the head and upper chest.

Officers also discovered an unidentified 33-year-old woman who was shot in the leg. She was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital where she is currently being treated.

No suspects have been arrested at this time.  Investigators remain on scene looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

It appears the home did not have any broken windows or doors to indicate a possible intruder entering the residence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department’s Tip Line at (916) 727-5524 and reference CHPD Case number 1102586.
