Two Men Arrested Following Motel Robbery in Fresno

Paul Weatherson and Kevin Downs

FRESNO – Police arrested two men accused of forcing their way into a motel room and demanding cash and jewelry from the occupants.

The incident happened shortly before 5 a.m. on Friday at a motel on the 6000 block of N. Blackstone Avenue. Officers, who responded to a call reporting that a woman was screaming, saw a man and woman run out of the motel room, screaming that they had been robbed.

When the officers entered the room, they found a man who appeared to be assaulting a woman, authorities said.

The man retreated into the bathroom and the woman ran outside, police said. Officers found two firearms in the room, one of which was hidden in a toilet tank.

Two men – Paul Weatherson, 34, and Kevin Downs, 45 – were taken into custody in connection to the incident. Police say the two men had forced their way into the room and demanded that the occupants turn over any cash and jewelry.

Weatherson and Downs were booked on home invasion and weapons charges.
