FONTANA — An estranged husband was expected to survive his own suicide attempt after police said he had killed his wife.

Griselda Gonzalez of Hesperia, 37, was killed Wednesday in a machete attack allegedly perpetrated by her husband, Horacio.“After the event, he went to a store, purchased some bleach and then drank it,” said Sgt. Jeff Decker of the Fontana Police Department. Decker said Gonzalez, 39, is expected to survive.

The attack occurred around 4 p.m. in the 17000 block of Valley Boulevard at a business called Mimi’s Hair Designs. There were several employees and customers present at the time of the incident.

According to police reports, people that knew the victim said the couple had been having marital troubles and were going through a divorce.

“He struck her in the head with the machete,” Decker said, “and she was pronounced dead right there.”
