UPDATE:Redlands Police arrest shooting suspect, investigatioon continues

REDLANDS – A suspect was arrested in a shooting death that took place outside a State Street bar last weekend, police said on Sunday.

Randy Ortis

Randy Ortis, 22, was taken into custody about 2 a.m. on Thursday in the 5500 block of Bonnie St., an unincorporated area near San Bernardino’s Del Rosa neighborhood, said Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker.
A handgun, possibly the one used in the shooting, was recovered.

Three people were shot outside Charlie Jewell’s bar and grill at 1 East State St. where the shooting took place in the early morning hours of Nov. 19. Tipsters came forward after police released a surveillance video that included images taken outside the bar.
The shooting occurred just before 1:30 a.m. and after two groups of men were seen fighting inside the bar. Those involved in the initial fight were escorted out by security personnel where more words and blows were exchanged which, police believe, led to the shooting.
San Bernardino police and the San Bernardino County sheriff’s SWAT team assisted in the arrest, Baker said.

Detective Frank Rocha said, “The investigation is still ongoing.” He said investigators are still trying to identify at least five other people in the surveillance video to see if the fight was gang related.
Police have not said what led police to Ortis, who is accused of shooting three men, including Kruze Levusi Kuaea, 22, of Calimesa, who died at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Two other men, ages 22 and 23, neither of who have been named, were also wounded in the shooting, but were expected to survive.
Ortis, who is being held without bail, was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga for investigation on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder, said Baker.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Rob Williams at 909-798-7688 or police dispatch at 909-798-7681. Anonymous tips can be texted to 274637, using the keyword “REDTIP.”
