Multi-Unit Investigation Leads to Apprehension of Driver After Fatal Scooter Crash

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Investigators with the San Francisco Police Department have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a motorized scooter last month.

Officers assigned to SFPD’s Northern Station responded to reports of a collision with injuries near Franklin and Pine streets at approximately 5:08 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2026. Arriving personnel located an adult male scooter rider suffering from life-threatening injuries and provided emergency aid. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Investigators established that a motorist struck the victim before fleeing the scene without stopping or rendering aid. An immediate search of the surrounding area did not locate the driver or the vehicle.

The SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU), collaborating with the department’s Sideshow Response and Enforcement Unit (SREU), subsequently identified the involved vehicle and tracked its location to San Rafael.

On Oct. 29, 2026, TCIU and SREU investigators—with operational support from the San Rafael Police Department—located the vehicle and the suspect in San Rafael. Officers arrested 39-year-old Daniel Llama without incident, while the vehicle was impounded and transported back to San Francisco for evidentiary processing.

Llama was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on felony charges of hit-and-run resulting in death (California Vehicle Code § 20001(a)) and vehicular manslaughter (California Penal Code § 192(c)(2)).
