Yucaipa Resident Arrested Following $300,000 Embezzlement Investigation at Forest Home Christian Camp

YUCAIPA, CA — Detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Yucaipa Station have arrested a 40-year-old Yucaipa resident following an extensive investigation into the embezzlement of more than $300,000 from Forest Home Camp.

Investigators initiated the inquiry in December 2025 after allegations surfaced that former employee Matthew Stryffeler had misappropriated substantial funds from the organization’s accounts. According to organizational records, Stryffeler held several positions within the camp and had direct access to financial accounts.

Over the course of the investigation, detectives reviewed financial documents obtained through search warrants and conducted witness interviews. Findings indicated that Stryffeler established a fictitious business entity, named Kanvast Merch, which he utilized to purchase and trade high-value sports memorabilia using the diverted capital. Authorities determined the unauthorized withdrawals occurred over a seven-year period.

Following the acquisition of an arrest warrant, deputies served a search warrant at Stryffeler’s Yucaipa residence on Sept. 22, 2026, at approximately 10:13 a.m. Stryffeler was arrested without incident on suspicion of embezzlement (Penal Code 503) and theft by misappropriation (Penal Code 470).

Detectives believe additional victims or witnesses may be connected to the case. Individuals with pertinent information are requested to call Detective S. Evans at the Yucaipa Station at (909) 918-2300, referencing Case No. 042500719. Anonymous reports may be submitted through the We-Tip hotline at (844) 909-3006 or online.
