CHP Bicycle Stop in Vista Leads to Discovery of Methamphetamine and Brass Knuckles
VISTA, CA — A late-night bicycle traffic stop conducted by a California Highway Patrol officer resulted in the recovery of suspected narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a prohibited weapon early Friday morning.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., an officer from the CHP Oceanside Area office observed an individual operating a bicycle without required lighting equipment and failing to stop for a red traffic signal near the intersection of East Vista Way and Foothill Drive in Vista.
During the subsequent enforcement stop and investigation, the officer conducted a search that yielded 5.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe associated with narcotics consumption, and a set of metal brass knuckles.
CHP officials cited the incident to illustrate that routine proactive enforcement of vehicle and equipment codes can assist officers in detecting broader criminal activity, including the possession of illegal substances and prohibited weapons.
