CHP Arrests Teen Suspect in Retaliatory Bay Bridge Freeway Shooting
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A multi-agency investigation into a freeway shooting on Interstate 80 resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old man and the recovery of a firearm linked to the crime.
The incident occurred on Sept. 26, 2026, when California Highway Patrol officers responded to a reported shooting on eastbound I-80, west of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza. Investigators determined the shooting was targeted and retaliatory, originating from a physical altercation that occurred earlier in San Francisco. Following the initial dispute, the suspects allegedly pursued the victims onto the freeway and fired into their vehicle, striking a passenger in the leg.
Investigators with the CHP Golden Gate Division Major Crimes Unit identified two primary suspects: 19-year-old Olman Santiago Martinezaguilar of San Pablo and a 15-year-old male resident of Richmond.
At approximately 6:15 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2026, the CHP Golden Gate Division Warrant Service Team executed search and arrest warrants at residences in Richmond and San Pablo. Officers located and arrested Martinezaguilar at his home in San Pablo and recovered a firearm believed to be associated with him. Authorities confirmed the 15-year-old juvenile suspect was already in custody at a juvenile facility on an unrelated matter.
Martinezaguilar was transported and booked into the Santa Rita Jail on charges including attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and additional related offenses.
CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Steve Ramos emphasized the agency’s commitment to holding individuals accountable for violent offenses that endanger the public on state roadways. The investigation remains ongoing.
