CHP Officer Arrests Big Rig Driver for DUI After Near-Collision in Stanislaus County
MODESTO, CA — An officer with the California Highway Patrol arrested a big rig driver for driving under the influence following a traffic violation that nearly caused a multi-vehicle collision on Crows Landing Road.
The incident occurred after a CHP Commercial Officer observed a tractor-trailer pulling double trailers fail to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign. As the big rig turned onto Crows Landing Road, oncoming traffic was forced to brake abruptly to avoid a serious crash.
The officer initiated a traffic stop on the commercial vehicle. While interacting with the driver, the officer observed visual signs of impairment and initiated a field sobriety investigation.
Following the evaluation, officers placed the driver under arrest for driving under the influence. The commercial big rig and its double trailers were subsequently impounded and towed from the scene.
CHP officials reiterated that operating any vehicle while impaired poses severe dangers, emphasizing the heightened risk when maneuvering heavy commercial vehicles on public roadways.
