Richmond PD Officer Inured by Gunfire While Responding to Metal Health Crisis Call
RICHMOND, CA — A 39-year-old Richmond woman faces felony charges including attempted murder of an officer on September 3. Police were responding to a mental health crisis call on the 2200 block of Key Boulevard, when Jasmine N. Robinson allegedly opened fire on them.
More than 30 rounds were fired from a semiautomatic firearm from inside an apartment. The hail of gunfire injured one officer. Bullets also struck neighboring residences, parked cars, and an occupied police car. A second officer inside the police car was not injured.
“The significant threat posed by the suspect required a large-scale tactical response, including armored rescue vehicles,” Richmond police said in a prepared statement. “We are incredibly fortunate that our officer survived and is continuing to recover from their injuries.”
A SWAT team deployed tear gas, following a two-hour standoff, before Robinson exited from the apartment and surrendered herself. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, East Bay Regional Park District police, and El Cerrito police assisted Richmond police.
Richmond PD arrested Robinson at 10:40 a.m. She remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility in lieu of $950,000 bond.
