Suspect Charged for Murder – Victim’s Decomposed Body Found Buried in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA — A suspect with a criminal history is charged with the murder of a victim found buried in Oakland. Sergio O. Flores, 42, of Berkeley, has remained in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail since his arrest on August 26. Flores is ineligible for release on bond.
Oakland officers found the victim’s body in a decomposed state on June 9. It was buried near a homeless encampment on the 500 block of 34th Street. “The victim was bound and had duct tape covering his face,” a prepared statement from the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said.
Homicide investigators identified Flores as the suspect responsible for the killing. However, authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim.
In addition to murder, Flores faces additional charges related to violent conduct causing bodily harm by a suspect with prior convictions. His next scheduled court date is September 21.
His prior convictions include second-degree burglary in 2025, and negligent discharge of a fireman in 2023. He was also convicted in 2021 for unlawful driving or taking a vehicle.
Flores has been arrested 18 times since 2018, including multiple prior arrests involving vehicle thefts.
He also has previous arrests on his record for assault, burglary, grand theft, and possession of a controlled substance.
