Suspects Arrested for Allegedly Stealing 60 Cartons of Cigarettes in Downtown Livermore
LIVERMORE, CA — Three suspects were arrested on August 22 for allegedly stealing 60 cartons
of cigarettes from a business on Old First Street in downtown Livermore.
The suspects are identified as Alonza L. Holmes, 23, and Robert Benjamin, 20, both from Oakland; and Robin Cooper, 24, of Livermore.
It was quick attempted getaway to the freeway for the theft that occurred at approximately
3:15 p.m. However, the vehicle associated with the crime was tracked less than 2 miles away
traveling westbound on Interstate 580.
Working in coordination with California Highway Patrol, Livermore police conducted a traffic
stop near the 164th Avenue exit. Holmes, Benjamin, and Cooper were safely taken into
custody in an unincorporated area near San Leandro without further incident. The cigarettes
were recovered.
“All three were arrested on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime,”
according to a prepared statement from Livermore police.
Holmes and Benjamin remain in custody in lieu of posting bond, according to Alameda
County Santa Rita Jail online inmate records. Holmes’ occupation listed as “home care” and
Benjamin has no occupation listed.
Bond to release Holmes from custody was set at $90,000, and Benjamin’s bond was set at
$40,000. Cooper is presently not listed in the online inmate roster for Alameda County Santa
Rita Jail. Incidentally, smoking is prohibited at the jail.
Holmes has prior conviction for grand theft in 2024, and arrests on his record for robberies
and firearm possession. Benjamin has a prior conviction for carrying a loaded firearm in 2025,
and arrests on his record for grand theft, and other firearms-related offenses.
