CARPINTERIA, CA — August 13, 2026 — A Carpinteria man suspected of possessing narcotics for sale has been arrested pursuant
to a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s investigation that led to the seizure of more than 9
pounds of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine.
According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer
Raquel Zick, the investigation began when sheriff’s detectives conducting a proactive
narcotics investigation; identified 41-year-old Kenneth Rivas of Carpinteria as a
suspect. Based on information developed during that investigation, detectives obtained a
warrant to search his residence.
Detectives made contact with Rivas at about 1:47 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, as he was
driving in a Goleta business district just north of the Santa Barbara city limits. A traffic
stop was conducted and Rivas was taken into custody without further incident.
The investigation then shifted to Rivas’ Carpinteria residence, where detectives served
the search warrant.
During the search, investigators reported finding approximately 3.2 pounds of
suspected fentanyl, 6.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and an ounce of
suspected cocaine, along with a handgun, ammunition ,and approximately $1,100 in
cash.
Rivas was subsequently transported to Santa Barbara County Jail and was booked on
felony charges of possession of narcotics for sale and possession of a firearm and
ammunition by a prohibited person.
Rivas remains in custody with his bail set at $35,000.
