Rap Musician in Custody for Attempted Murder, Assault with Semiautomatic Firearm

OAKLAND —Tahytus Johnson, 20, of Oakland, remains in custody ineligible for release on
bond, following his arrest in July for allegedly assaulting a family with children. Multiple
charges filed against Johnson include attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic
firearm.
Johnson was booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail on July 13. He joined his older
brother 23-year-old Taurus Johnson, already in custody there for parole violation. Both
brothers are associcated with a rap group known as “Nobody Safe” or simply NBS. Evidently,
an Oakland street gang also uses the same name.
The younger Johnson allegedly discharged a firearm intentionally on July 9 during the middle
of the afternoon. The shooting happened on 1900 block of Market Street in Oakland, following
an argument shortly after 1 p.m.
When the gunfire erupted a couple pushed their three children to the ground for safety.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Though an unoccupied vehicle was hit.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video and social media accounts to identify Johnson as
the suspect in the shooting.
Johnson has one prior conviction. In addition, his record includes two previous arrests this
year in February. One arrest was for robbery and the other arrest was for trespassing.
Johnson was also reportedly arrested when he was a juvenile.
