Modesto Police Seize 60 Pounds of Methamphetamine and Firearms Following Traffic Stop
MODESTO, CA — Officers with the Modesto Police Department seized approximately 60 pounds of methamphetamine, firearms, and drug paraphernalia during a multi-stage enforcement detail that began with a traffic stop near Kansas Avenue and southbound Highway 99.
During the initial vehicle stop, Officer Garcia Martinez and his K-9 partner conducted an exterior sniff of the automobile, which resulted in a positive alert for controlled substances. A search of the vehicle yielded an initial quantity of methamphetamine, leading officers to detain the driver at the scene without incident.
Information gathered during the traffic stop allowed investigators to obtain a search warrant for a associated residence. Members of the Modesto Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Property Crimes Unit, and patrol officers executed the warrant at the location. In total, law enforcement personnel recovered 60 pounds of methamphetamine, multiple firearms, packaging supplies, and scales.
Two individuals were taken into custody and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center:
- Michael Randell Haney, 63, of Modesto (driver)
- Miguel Salvado Torres Hernandez, 32, of San Jose (passenger)
Both suspects were charged with possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation of methamphetamine for sale, and a high-quantity drug weight enhancement under California Health and Safety Code. The investigation remains active.
