Suspect Arrested in Connection with Child Abuse Investigation at Unlicensed Daycare in Shandon

SHANDON, CA — On August 5, 2026, detectives with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Shandon following an ongoing investigation into alleged sexual abuse involving a minor under the age of 14.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 67-year-old Javier RiveraMojica, a resident of Shandon. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on an outstanding no-bail warrant for multiple counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

During the investigation, detectives determined that RiveraMojica allegedly accessed multiple victims through an unlicensed daycare facility operated by him and his wife at their South Fourth Street home.

Authorities confirmed that victim advocacy and support services have been provided to the affected families. Investigators suspect there may be additional victims or witnesses connected to the operation of the facility. The Sheriff’s Office requests that anyone with relevant information or who believes they had contact with RiveraMojica under similar circumstances contact the Detective Division at (805) 781-4500 as the active investigation continues.
