Fight leaves Atascadero man with multiple wounds in chest

The San Luis Police Department (SLOPD) is searching for information regarding a fight that happened around midnight in SLO that left one man with a stab wound to the chest and another with a head injury.

According to SLOPD, after arriving at the 1000 block of Broad Street at around 12:07 a.m. Friday morning in response to a call regarding reports of an injured subject lying in the street, officers discovered a man lying on the ground covered in a large amount of blood.

The victim was Trevor Wade Tice, 26, of Atascadero. After police called an ambulance to the scene, members of the San Luis Obispo Fire Department arrived and began administering lifesaving treatment on Tice.

While Tice was being treated on scene, it was determined he was suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body. He was then was transported by ambulance to Sierra Vista Hospital for further treatment.

According to police, Tice’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening at the time of press.

A press release from SLOPD states that during their investigation officers determined the stabbing appeared to have occurred near the southeast corner of Broad and Monterey streets.

According to police, prior to the stabbing the victims were involved in a physical fight with several other unknown subjects, and that this fight may have begun on the sidewalk and then spilled into the street. Police recovered several items of evidence related to the crime.

SLOPD also discovered a second victim who was involved in the incident. Zachary Lerno, 26, also of Atascadero, was struck and received an injury to his head.  Lerno had departed prior to police arrival and did not receive treatment for his injuries, according to SLOPD.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is currently investigating this incident.  Anyone with information regarding this assault is urged to contact the SLOPD at 805-781-7317.
