SAN ANSELMO, CA — Robert A. Prichard, 82, allegedly attempted to attack his roommate with a
hammer at the San Anselmo residence they shared. Central Marin Police Authority arrested
Prichard later the same day on July 18.
A disturbance at their residence on Francisco Boulevard was reported to police at
approximately 10:30 a.m. The only information released about Prichard’s roommate was that she
is an elder or “dependent adult.”
Investigators determined that an argument escalated to an attempted attack with a hammer.
Prichard allegedly said he intended to kill his roommate.
Prichard was placed under arrest a few hours later at 1:18 p.m. at MarinHealth Medical
Center, 250 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae. He was booked into Marin County Jail at 3:53 p.m.,
where he remains in custody in lieu of $500,000 bond.
Multiple charges have been filed against Prichard including attempted murder. He is also
charged with attempted use of a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon/not a
firearm. Plus, he is charged with a special allegation involving a prior serious or violent felony
conviction(s), but details were not released.
Prichard is scheduled to appear at Marin County Superior Court for a plea hearing on August
4. Meanwhile, a protective court order has been issued prohibiting Prichard from contacting
his roommate while the case is pending.
