Wells Fargo Bank in Oakland Robbed Twice in 6 Days – Suspect in Custody

OAKLAND — Michael Savage, 67, of Oakland, faces multiple charges for allegedly robbing
the same Wells Fargo Bank twice in six days.
Savage who was arrested on July 17 has criminal convictions on his record as far back as 1979. He presently remains in custody at
Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.
Savage is charged with robbing the Wells Fargo Bank on Franklin Street in downtown
Oakland on July 9, and again July 15. In the first robbery, Savage allegedly held a bank
employee at knife-point before fleeing. The amount of cash stolen in both robberies has not
been disclosed.
“These brazen robberies terrorized bank employees and customers,” said Alameda County
District Attorney Ursula Jones-Dickson in a prepared statement. “It left innocent people in fear
for their lives.”
Investigators relied on witness statements, security video recordings, and physical evidence
to identify Savage as the suspect. In addition, Savage was also arrested for failure to register
as a sex offender annually, stemming from his rape conviction in 1986.
Charges filed against Savage include second-degree robbery, use of a dangerous or deadly
weapon, and false imprisonment. A petition is pending to revoke his probation resulting from
prior theft and stolen property convictions.
Savage is a lifelong recidivist. He faces violent “strike” enhancement charges related to his
convictions for robberies in 2017, 2014, 1993 and 1986. Records also indicate Savage was
convicted for grand theft in 1979.
