Thousand Oaks SWAT Standoff: Resident Arrested After Threatening To Kill His Parents

THOUSAND OAKS, CA — July 6, 2026 — On the afternoon of July 5th, Thousand Oaks patrol deputies responded to a 911 Emergency call for service reporting that a man was threatening to kill his parents. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Sean Taylor, “one of the victims was non-ambulatory.”

As deputies headed to the scene, the Sheriff’s Communications Center “kept an open phone line with one of the victims” so that deputies were updated on the situation enroute; they learned that 36-year-old Thousand Oaks resident Aaron Lieberman had threatened to kill his parents and was “keeping them captive in a bedroom.”

With the situation escalating, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and Tactical Negotiations Unit deployed to the scene and took over operational command.

While deputies were preparing to resolve the standoff, one of the victims told dispatchers that Lieberman had begun “lighting an article of clothing on fire.” Believing the victims were in imminent danger of death or serious injury, SWAT personnel forced their way into the residence and confronted Lieberman who “grabbed the rifle of one SWAT team member.” Deputies then used a TASER during the struggle and took Lieberman into custody.

Lieberman was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on charges of making criminal threats, false imprisonment, arson of personal property, elder abuse, resisting an executive officer and attempting to remove or seize a firearm from a peace officer.

He remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000.
