CHP Modesto Officers Arrest Convicted Felon Following High-Speed Traffic Stop on State Route 33
MODESTO, CA — Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Modesto Area graveyard shift recently initiated a traffic stop on a Kia vehicle traveling along State Route 33. The vehicle was recorded traveling at a speed of 84 miles per hour in an area where the posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour.
During the course of the traffic enforcement stop, officers conducted an inspection of the vehicle and located a firearm situated near the right front passenger. Upon further investigation, law enforcement determined that the passenger was a convicted felon. Because of this legal status, the individual is categorized as a prohibited person regarding the ownership or possession of firearms. The passenger was subsequently arrested on charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
According to department statements, traffic enforcement contacts initiated for speeding violations frequently lead to additional investigations beyond the issuance of a speeding citation. The agency noted that traffic stops serve as an entry point for identifying and removing illegal firearms, addressing criminal activity, and removing specific drivers from the roadways. The California Highway Patrol maintains 24-hour patrol operations to monitor traffic limits and compliance with regional safety laws.
