Man with criminal history takes hostage, loses life to SWAT

STANISLAUS – Shortly after 1:30 pm on June 6th, an armed male entered a home with three juveniles inside. The incident was reported to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, and officers responded.

Deputies arrived to the home in the 200 block of Olivero Road. The suspect took one of the juveniles, a 17-year-old girl, as a hostage in the home.

SWAT teams, as well as Hostage Negotiation Teams, arrived on scene. SWAT made an action to free the hostage and, in the course of their action, the suspect was killed.

37-year-old Jose Jesus Astorga Jr. had “an extensive criminal history in California and was currently wanted on a no bail felony warrant for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest from the Sheriff’s Department.”
