OAKLAND — A 39-year-old Oakland resident, Krystal M. Love allegedly set a car on fire, and assaulted first responders. Love was arrested on June 22 at 11:04 a.m., and she remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.
Oakland firefighters were dispatched to the car fire at 10:15 a.m., on the 7400 block of International Boulevard. Witnesses reported that Love intentionally set the car alight, and she prevented firefighters from approaching the burning vehicle.
Witnesses reported the suspect wielded a large stick, interfering with firefighters, until Oakland police arrived and secured the scene. Meanwhile, the fire spread from the vehicle to a nearby tree.
As Oakland firefighters extinguished the blaze, Oakland police attempted to arrest Love. One officer sustained injuries during a struggle to take Love into custody. The injured officer was transported and treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, and released.
Multiple felony charges were filed the following day against Love. Her charges include assault and battery on an officer or firefighter, causing injury, and use of a deadly weapon.
Besides the criminal complaint, special allegations were filed against Love, because she has two previous convictions on her record. Love has prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon in 2019, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2023.
Love was on probation at the time of her latest arrest, with a suspended three-year prison sentence. Her probation was revoked on June 24.
