Orange Resident Arrested for Grand Theft Following Theft at Irvine Costco

IRVINE, CA – Officers with the Irvine Police Department have arrested a suspect following an investigation into a theft that occurred last month at a Costco wholesale location.

According to law enforcement reports, the incident took place while a customer was trying on an item of clothing inside the store. The suspect removed a fanny pack belonging to the customer from a shopping trolley. The suspect then extracted a wallet and various personal items from the pouch before abandoning the empty fanny pack in one of the store aisles.

Following the report, Spectrum Officers reviewed internal surveillance camera footage from the business to identify the individual involved. Last week, officers conducted a targeted surveillance operation that resulted in the arrest of 55-year-old Steve Cruz, a resident of Orange.

Cruz was taken into custody on charges of grand theft. A subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of the victim’s wallet and other missing personal items.
