Teenage Driver Arrested for DUI Following Rollover Crash Into Tree in Woodland
WOODLAND, CA — An 18-year-old resident of Davis was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a single-vehicle rollover collision on East Street.
According to law enforcement reports, the vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a tree, and subsequently overturned. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, sustained minor airbag abrasions and walked away from the scene. No other vehicles or individuals were involved or injured in the incident.
Upon contacting the driver, responding officers conducted an investigation and determined the individual was operating the vehicle while impaired. A chemical test revealed the driver had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.16%, which is twice the legal limit for an adult driver.
The Woodland Police Department noted that the incident occurred at the start of the graduation season. The department issued a reminder that California law enforces a zero-tolerance policy for drivers under the age of 21, meaning the legal BAC limit for minors is zero. Additionally, authorities emphasized that drivers between the ages of 16 and 20 are 17 times more likely to die in a vehicle collision when operating with a BAC of 0.08% compared to sober drivers, and that substances such as marijuana similarly impair judgment, reaction time, and overall driving ability.
