Parolee Arrested on DUI, Weapons, and Threat Allegations

VISALIA, CA — Just before 9:00 p.m. on May 31st, Visalia Police Department officers arrested a known parolee, 26-year-old Bernardino Barcelo, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Following his arrest, Barcelo allegedly made verbal threats directed at the arresting officers, stating that he possessed firearms and intended to assault an officer upon his release from custody.

In response to these statements, officers proceeded to Barcelo’s registered parole residence located in the 2500 block of West Delta Avenue to conduct a parole compliance search. During the search of the residence, officers located a .22-caliber rifle, a .22-caliber handgun, ammunition, and multiple ammunition magazines.

As a convicted felon, Barcelo is legally prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Authorities noted that he had also previously failed to surrender his weapons as legally required.

Barcelo was transported and booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility. He faces multiple charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, driving under the influence, and a parole violation.
