Intoxicated Suspect Disarmed by Victim and Arrested on Weapons Charges on North Divisadero Street
VISALIA, CA — Officers with the Visalia Police Department responded to a report of an armed individual in the 1200 block of North Divisadero Street just after 8:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers detained the suspect, identified as 36 year old Nicanor Basilio-Ayala, who was found in possession of a sawed-off shotgun. The subsequent investigation revealed that Basilio-Ayala, who was determined by officers to be heavily intoxicated, had approached a victim while armed and initiated a verbal altercation.
Prior to the arrival of law enforcement, the victim managed to take the suspect to the ground and safely disarm him. The victim and the victim’s family stated to officers that they had no prior acquaintance with the suspect.
Basilio-Ayala was arrested and faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon along with multiple weapons-related charges.
