El Dorado County DUI Driver Sentenced to State Prison Time
EL DORADO COUNTY, CA — June 9th 2026 —
“On June 5, 2026, Judge Mark A. Ralphs sentenced Selena Carlson , 60, of River Pines, to 32 months in state prison for felony driving under the influence.
The charges stemmed from a December 23, 2025, incident in Placerville. Shortly after midnight, officers with the Placerville Police Department responded to a report of a tan sedan involved in a collision. Officers located Carlson seated in a Toyota Corolla with bumper damage at 49er Liquor on Main Street.
Carlson admitted she had struck something while driving and stopped at the liquor store. A witness reported seeing Carlson drive on Main Street, make a U-turn, pull into the 49er Liquor parking lot, and appear to be nodding off in the driver’s seat.
Officers observed multiple signs of alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech, red and watery eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. Carlson later provided breath samples showing blood-alcohol concentrations of 0.24% and 0.23%—approximately three times the legal limit.
Carlson’s criminal history includes a prior conviction for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a prior felony DUI conviction.
Driving under the influence continues to pose a serious threat to public safety. The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office remains committed to holding impaired drivers accountable and working with our law enforcement partners to help keep our communities safe.”
