Siskiyou County Authorities Seize Nearly $2M of Cocaine After Traffic Stop for Mechanical Violations
SISKIYOU COUNTY, CA — Local deputies reportedly arrested a motorist and seized nearly $2 million worth of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop in late May.
According to a press release by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled over a 2022 Mazda CX5 just before noon on Friday, May 29, for mechanical violations. The driver did not have a license and was allegedly “demonstrating multiple criminal indicators.”
Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered a possible aftermarket false compartment, prompting them to request a K-9 unit to the scene.
The Mount Shasta Police Department responded with their drug detection canine, who reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics. When deputies accessed the compartment, they allegedly located 18 kilograms of suspected cocaine, valued at $1.9 million.
The driver was arrested and booked at the Siskiyou County jail, the sheriff’s office said.
