MODESTO, CA — A motorist was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop initiated by a citizen’s report of erratic driving behavior.
A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer patrolling the area located and stopped the described vehicle to conduct an enforcement check. Upon contacting the motorist, the officer initiated a driving under the influence (DUI) evaluation. Based on the results of the roadside assessment, the driver was taken into custody for operating a vehicle while impaired.
Prior to towing the vehicle, officers conducted a standard vehicle inventory search. During the inspection, law enforcement personnel discovered a loaded rifle inside the passenger compartment. A closer examination of the firearm revealed it lacked a serial number, a characteristic associated with privately manufactured weapons or “ghost guns.” Additionally, a physical search of the driver yielded an unspecified quantity of illicit drugs on their person.
The driver was transported to a local detention facility and booked on charges including driving under the influence, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a controlled substance. CHP officials credited the initial 911 call from the public for allowing officers to intercept the vehicle and remove the weapon and narcotics from the roadway.
