Suspect Arrested for Attempted Homicide Following Shooting on Freedom Boulevard

WATSONVILLE, CA — April 22nd 2026 — 

“A 38-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with last Friday’s shooting on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard.

The investigation, led by our Detectives, concluded yesterday evening with the arrest of Jesus Acosta Castro. During the operation, Castro fled from Officers, leading them on a foot pursuit on the 100 block of Winchester Drive.

Castro was taken into custody shortly after and was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of attempted homicide.

The shooting that happened on April 17 left a 37-year-old man injured with a gunshot wound, and he is expected to be okay.

We would like to thank our local law enforcement partners for their assistance with this arrest.”
