Driver Arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter Following Fatal Collision in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Police Department has arrested 76-year-old Zhuo Ming Lu in connection with a fatal vehicle collision that occurred on March 27, 2026. The incident took place at approximately 7:43 a.m. in the vicinity of Grant Avenue and Jackson Street.

According to the preliminary investigation, Lu was attempting to park his vehicle when it struck two pedestrians on the sidewalk before colliding with a building. Responding officers located two victims at the scene, both of whom were transported to a local hospital by paramedics. One of the victims was later pronounced deceased despite medical intervention, while the second adult victim was treated for injuries determined to be non-life-threatening.

Lu remained at the scene following the collision and cooperated with investigators. The San Francisco Police Department Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU) assumed leadership of the case. On April 17, 2026, investigators established probable cause to arrest Lu on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving at a speed greater than is reasonable.

While an arrest has been processed, the San Francisco Police Department stated that the investigation remains open and active. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information regarding the case to contact the SFPD via their tip line or through the Text-A-Tip service.
