Suspect in Custody for Massive String of Early Morning Vehicle Break-Ins

VENTURA COUNTY, CA — April 26, 2026 – A string of early morning vehicle break-ins across Thousand Oaks and Moorpark came to a head
April 20 when investigators arrested 45-year-old Ventura resident Jason Kohr, who is
suspected in more than two dozen thefts.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Capt. Nick Odenath, deputies
spent much of April responding to “reports of cars being entered and property stolen, often
before sunrise.”
In total, more than 25 incidents were documented across both cities, prompting a
coordinated investigation by detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office East County
Investigations Bureau. “These cases shared similar patterns, including timing and method,”
leading detectives to believe the crimes were connected.
The investigation soon pointed to Kohr, who had been arrested only months earlier in connection
with another series of vehicle-related crimes spanning multiple Ventura County communities.
On the afternoon of April 20, members of the East County Special Enforcement Unit made
contact with Kohr and took him into custody “without incident.” During the arrest, investigators
recovered property believed to have been stolen in the Thousand Oaks cases.
Kohr was transported to the Ventura County Jail, where he was charged with five counts of
burglary, 10 counts of petty theft, two counts of grand theft, eight counts of vehicle tampering,
three counts of attempted burglary, theft with prior convictions, possession of drug paraphernalia,
possession of controlled substances, theft of an access card, and an outstanding bench warrant.
At the time of publication, Kohr remains in custody with bail set at $25,000, according to jail records.
