A Santa Paula man was arrested April 30 on charges of criminal threats and brandishing a firearm.

At approximately 7:46 a.m. on April 30, deputies from the Fillmore and Headquarters stations
responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon in the unincorporated area of Santa
Paula.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jarrod Foote, when deputies
and detectives from the Fillmore Bureau of Investigation arrived, they spoke with two adult male
victims who said they had been parked on public land when they were approached by a man
later identified as 57-year-old Santa Paula resident Charles Law.

According to investigators, Law, “brandished a firearm, issued threats, and fired a round into the air” in what appeared to be an
effort to force the men to leave the area.

Deputies tracked Law down later that morning near his residence, at which time he was taken
into custody without incident.

Following his arrest, detectives promptly obtained a warrant to search Law’s residence. During
that search, they “discovered additional evidence linking Law to the criminal violations.”

Law was transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on charges including criminal
threats, brandishing a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm.
