OAKLAND, CA  — A convicted felon was arrested on April 23 for a murder in West Oakland on the
1800 block of Wood Street. Tyrone Gobar, 55, of Oakland, remains in custody at Alameda
County Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond.

Oakland police responded to reports of gunfire, and found the victim who died at the scene.
Patrol officers searching the vicinity located and the arrested Gobar at 11:15 a.m. The firearm
that Gobar allegedly used was recovered.

Police have only identified the victim as an adult male. Nor has any motive for this fatal
shooting been released in this ongoing investigation.

Wood Street is a mostly industrial area. The area is a crime hot spot, involving firearms,

Gobar’s next scheduled court date is May 11 for a plea hearing. A prepared statement from
the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said. “The charges include sentencing
enhancements for personal use of a firearm and for causing death.”

Gobar is a repeat offender, reportedly having prior convictions for rape in 1989, grand theft in 1998, and
robbery in 2014.
