Joseph Alcala Sentenced to 25 Years to Life for 2016 Murder of Debra Jessep

KINGS COUNTY, CA — “On February 19, 2026, Joseph Marrio Alcala was sentenced to twenty-five years to life in state prison for the 2016 murder of Debra Jessep.

Alcala was taken into custody on the night Mrs. Jessep was discovered murdered in 2016 and remained in custody throughout his legal proceedings.

Following several delays during the court process, the jury trial commenced in January 2026. After hearing the evidence presented, the jury found Mr. Alcala guilty of first-degree murder and the court imposed a sentence of twenty-five years to life, bringing resolution to a case that spanned a decade.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the California Attorney General’s Office and the Attorneys and support staff to include David Lowe, Camron Goodman and Dawn Stott-Owen from the California Department of Justice.”
