TIBURON, CA — Detectives from Tiburon arrested a woman suspected of credit card fraud when
she arrived on a red-eye flight at San Francisco International Airport.
Naghmeh Novbakhtian, 35, of San Francisco, was apprehended on March 31.
An investigation was launched a week earlier, when a Tiburon resident reported more than
$60,000 in fraudulent charges on their credit card.
Investigators discovered electronic payments on the victim’s card made directly to accounts linked to Novbakhtian.
“Detectives learned that Novbakhtian was traveling abroad, and was scheduled to return to
the United States,” Tiburon police said in a prepared statement.
Novbakhtian was apprehended at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection federal inspection
area, with assistance from San Francisco police and CBP officers. She was placed under
arrest at approximately 6:50 a.m.
Novbakhtian was booked at Marin County Jail on suspicion of grand theft, identity theft, and
credit card fraud. She posted $150,000 bond and she was released from custody on April 1.
It turns out the suspect was formerly employed by the victim. She worked as a nanny for the
victim’s family from July 2025 to December 2025. The victim identified Novbakhtian as the
suspect.
Novbakhtian was authorized limited access to use the card for childcare-related expenses.
After her nanny employment ended, she allegedly went on an unauthorized spending spree.
These unauthorized charges included airline tickets, luxury hotel accommodations, cosmetics
and spa treatments, and ride-share services.
