Delhi Man Booked for Alleged Assault with a Firearm, Child Endangerment

DELHI, CA — “On the afternoon of March 26, 2026, Deputies responded to the area of Douglas Avenue and Yvonne Drive in Delhi for a report of gunshots.

Deputies located a victim who was driving in the area and was being followed by another vehicle. The victim confronted the suspect, later identified by investigators as 26-year-old Guillermo Cardenas, who shot at the victim before fleeing the scene. Cardenas missed the victim but shot the victim’s vehicle numerous times.

On April 6, 2026, Sheriff Detectives located Cardenas driving a vehicle and attempted to stop him. Cardenas led Detectives on a short pursuit before ultimately stopping on Lewis Circle in Delhi, where he was arrested. Detectives searched Cardenas’ vehicle and located a loaded firearm on the floorboard. Detectives served a search warrant at Cardenas’ house and located a pound of methamphetamine, a pound of cocaine, and other items consistent with narcotics sales. Investigators also located items associated with gang involvement, a loaded pistol magazine, and ammunition. All items located were accessible to two young juveniles in the home.

Cardenas was booked into the Merced County Jail for assault with a firearm, participating in a criminal street gang, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, and child endangerment. Great work by our Deputies and Investigators for their continued effort in getting these dangerous drugs and criminals off our streets!”
