BERKELEY, CA — Police detectives are still searching for a second suspect involved in a home
invasion and shooting last month. One suspect arrested on February 3, Taurieanah Johnson,
23, of Vista, was booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.
Johnson was arrested on February 2 by Oakland police for an unrelated offense. She was
turned over to Berkeley police who arrested her the following day.
The Berkeley home invasion and shooting happened on the 2900 block of Adeline Street.
Johnson and an unidentified woman allegedly forced their way into a fourth floor apartment on
January 17, shortly before 2 a.m.
The victims, also two women, were accosted while walking to a stairwell. They temporarily
evaded the suspects by taking an elevator up to the fourth floor, where they were accosted a
second time.
One suspect allegedly pointed a gun at one of the victim’s head, who reportedly pushed the
firearm away from her face. The armed suspect backed away and fired a shot at the victim,
but the bullet missed. The shot penetrated a wall into a neighbor’s apartment.
The violent commotion ended with the two suspects fleeing from the apartment building. Both
suspects ran down a staircase to a getaway car parked on Ashby Avenue. Fortunately, no
injuries were reported.
Berkeley detectives checked security video recordings and automated license plate readers,
which enabled them to identify Johnson. Turns out, Johnson is a convicted felon with multiple
prior arrests on her record.
The following charges in addition to various criminal enhancements were filed against
Johnson –
· Burglary PC 459
· Carrying a loaded firearm in public PC 25850(A)
· Displaying a firearm in threatening manner PC 417(A)(2)(B)
