Man Sets Record for Arrests and Zero-Bail Releases in Alameda County

DUBLIN — After nine recent arrests his ‘get-out-of-jail-free card’ finally went kaput. Waseen H. Abuhwaidi, 27, has set a record for arrests and releases in Alameda County with zero-bail.

Since his arrest on May 12, Abuhwaidi may no longer take advantage of zero-bail policies. These controversial new rules were enacted to protect inmates in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He presently remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail for assault, carjacking and second-degree robbery. He is ineligible for release on bond, pending arraignment on May 15.

Notwithstanding his probation status, Abuhwaidi was arrested and released eight other times since March 11.

Abuhwaidi has been on a crime spree, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. In between getting arrested and released, he allegedly committed assaults, burglaries, thefts and stole vehicles.

When he was arrested again on May 12, Dublin police saw him beating a victim as they arrived. He fled from the scene of the crime, but he was quickly apprehended.

Abuhwaidi faces multiple charges stemming from his May 12th arrest. His charges include assault, burglary, DUI alcohol/drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and vandalism.

On May 9, Abuhwaidi was arrested for allegedly carjacking an Amazon delivery driver and attempted second-degree robbery. Prior to that he was arrested seven other times between May 7 and March 11.

May 7- trespassing on closed lands
May 5 – vehicle theft and receiving stolen property
April 30 – disturbing the peace
April 28 – burglary, receiving stolen property and vandalism
March 22 – battery, burglary and vandalism
March 14 – assault, DUI Alcohol/drugs, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, obstruct/resist an officer.
March 11- battery, burglary, vandalism, obstruct/resist an officer
