RANCHO CORDOVA, CA — “On Friday afternoon, (Jan. 30) Deputies assigned to Sacramento Regional Transit District responded to Routier Road and Ellenwood Drive in Rancho Cordova, after a tip came in about a man on a bus possibly carrying a firearm.
Live video showed the man sitting at the back of the bus with what appeared to be a rifle inside a backpack.
When a deputy arrived and spoke with the bus driver outside, the man got off the bus and walked toward them, where he was safely detained without incident.
A loaded, unregistered rifle was later found inside the backpack. The man, later identified as 21-year-old Kanye Smithburns, of Sacramento, was taken into custody and booked into the Main Jail on weapons-related charges.
He was released hours later on pre-trial probation, until he appears in court tomorrow. His booking photo is not available for public release, as California law deemed his crimes “non-violent.””
