Arrest Made in Capital Public Radio Embezzlement Case
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA — JANUARY 29TH 2026
“On January 2, 2024, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes detectives were notified of possible embezzlement involving Capital Public Radio (CapRadio).
A routine audit conducted by the organization of their financial accounts revealed missing funds. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes detectives immediately launched a comprehensive investigation, which took years to complete, and now resulted in an arrest.
Fidias “Jun” Reina, 60, turned himself in at the Sacramento County Main Jail today. Reina was hired at CapRadio in May of 2007 as their Chief Financial Officer. In January of 2013 he also took on the role of Chief of Operations, ultimately becoming the Executive Vice President and General Manager in July of 2020. Reina separated from service with CapRadio in June of 2023 after the organization initially discovered financial improprieties.
Through their extensive investigation, detectives examined countless documents from credit card companies and banks along with CapRadio’s internal business records which illustrated numerous improprieties in the organization’s finances. It was found Reina had multiple credit cards linked to CapRadio accounts in his name, as well as multiple ACH transactions (money transfers) from CapRadio accounts directly into his personal bank accounts. It was determined these crimes occurred from December of 2016 until June of 2022.
These fraudulent transactions totaled over $1.3 million. Reina used the stolen money on travel, a new vehicle, home improvements, vehicle repair, education expenses for his children, property taxes, utilities, and various other personal every-day expenses. Detectives found he even used the stolen money to donate over $27,000 to CapRadio.
CapRadio is a nonprofit, 100 percent community funded 501(c)3 organization. Cap Radio funding comes from individual listeners, local businesses, foundations, and formerly the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
Reina was arrested on multiple felony counts of Embezzlement, Grand Theft, and Forgery.”
