Shasta County Man Arrested after Infant Hospitalized with Severe Injuries
SHASTA COUNTY, CA — “On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from a local hospital regarding a suspected child abuse incident involving an infant. Hospital staff reported that a 5-month-old infant was brought to the hospital by their biological parents for treatment of extensive injuries. Medical evaluations revealed multiple injuries including oral injuries and brain bleeds. Medical professionals indicated the injuries were not consistent with explanations provided by the father. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit (MCU) were contacted and assumed the investigation. The infant and an additional child were placed into protective custody pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code 300.
The infant is currently hospitalized out of the area for advanced care and is listed in critical condition.
Detectives served a search warrant at the parent’s Oak Run residence and both individuals were interviewed and released pending further investigation.
On Friday, January 23, 2026, based on the continuing investigation, an arrest warrant was secured for 39-year-old Christopher Jeffery Hasley in connection with the injuries to the infant.
Friday evening, Hasley was located and arrested without incident by patrol deputies from the Sheriff’s Burney Station.
Hasley was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of 245 (A)(4) PC Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Force: with Great Bodily Injury, 205 PC Aggravated Mayhem, 273A(A) PC Child Abuse with Great Bodily Injury/Death, and 203 PC Mayhem.
Hasley’s bail is set at $500,000.
